Darling buds of May

22nd May 2014

The Quince Tree

Clifton Nurseries

Can’t help but looking forward to summer, heat and ice cream!  Okay, flowers included too but they are the bitches of summer for the sneezing epidemic, soggy tissues, and stockpile of meds for hayfever sufferers. Never mind me, I’ll be missing the peak June season while I’m holidaying in Hong Kong and Seoul next month…but then there’s air pollution and indoor Artic conditions to cope with too.

Clifton Nurseries is a must visit in spring, new darling buds in full lustfulness, some have bloomed prematurely or some still in infancy due to the recent unpredictable weather that affects the flowering stage.  I love admiring their juicy succulents and tropical plants in the conservatory, absorbing the ray of sunshine and have a free quickie sauna-ish experience, pores out!   At The Quince Tree cafe located within the nurseries, you have five minutes to drool over the glossy treats and artistic foamy coffee before reaching out the evil smartphones for the Instagram shot, in hope of winning likes.  I have to say, they make the best mouthwatering strawberry tart that deserve a big shout out on social media in full times-ten exclamation marks and capital letters O.M.G.

Har Gao and Siu Mei are two of my guilty Dim Sum treats, whatever it contains prawn, crab, mussels, lobster et al, I would go for it without a second thought of my cholesterol.  Cocochan is a great pitstop in between shopping, located on James Street it’s only a stone’s throw away from Selfridges and (must avoid) tourist-trap restaurants.  Cocochan offers affordable yet contemporary Pan Asian cuisine, which includes light nibbles from Dim Sum to Sushi selections – from Japanese, Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese and Indian cuisines.  The Seafood Gyoza, Prawn, Squid, Seabass, Ponzu creates delectable highlight of the feast filled table, I’ve never tried fish mix with seafood in dumplings before and certainly tasted adventurous.  There’s plenty of seafood to devour slowly and the portions are generous for 2 or 3 people, the tuna sushi needs a seasoning though otherwise, I enjoyed my first Pan Asian experience at Cocochan, I would recommend anyone who likes adventurous food. Thanks Cocochan for having us!
