Essaouira

After spending 2 nights in the vibrant city of Marrakech, we headed to Essaouira (pronounced as Essa-wah-ra, I still have trouble pronouncing it) located on the Atlantic coast of Morocco, formerly Mogador.  The trip involved a 2.5 hour bus journey from Marrakech, it was a fairy pleasant ride, and not a single drop of motion sickness in sight phew, it only happens in London.  I was kept entertained by looking out of the window – a horse and old fashion cart!  A donkey stranded in the middle of the highway!  A herd of camels! A lone walker dressed in traditional robe!  Goodness, I felt like a 5 year old who never seen an elephant before.

Travelling and day tripping with a DSLR and monster lens in Morocco was no joke, and other necessary gadget like a vintage Olympus Trip camera and a few rolls of expired film, imagine the weight of my day bag and other content?  You’d never know you might stumble across something special, the moment.  Let’s press on. First stop we toured and sampled wine at Les Vins du Val d’Argan, checked in at Sofitel Hotel, dinner at Heure Bleue Palais, shopping at the Old Medina, a lot of walking, we saw the infamous picturesque fishing port, fortified walls and ramparts, tea and snacks at Riad Al Madina.  Drinks, music and magic tricks at Taros Cafe & Restaurant, and many more.  Walking around the Old Medina was more lively and relaxed compared to the touristy medina in Marrakech, the weather was fantastic and so blue, very hot and I was left sun burnt, otherwise comfortable.  Stay tuned for Essaouira part 2.

Many thanks to Sofitel Hotel Mogador for accommodating us, and thanks to Faical of Morocco Tourism Board for the amazing, unique and unforgettable experience in Essaouira.  Kit Lee of Style Slicker was a guest of Morocco Tourism Board.
