Mini Interview:

S.S: Describe your style in THREE words.

H.G: Easy, Bohemian, Scruffy.

S.S: What inspires you?

H.G: Heat, sunshine, travel, the outdoors, exoticism, music, anything by AA Gill, boys with long hair, Stevie Nicks and Brigitte Bardot, photos of my parents as hippies in the Seventies California.  Right now Parisian women and Audrey Tatou in particular – I interviewed her about the new Chanel movie last month (late April) and she was so elegant, charming and beautiful.  My imagination – it’s very active…

S.S: What got you into fashion?

H.G: I was obsessed with fashion magazines from the moment I could read.

S.S: Do you have any sort of fashion background?

H.G: I did a masters in Fashion Journalism at Central Saint Martins and interned at Vogue, Elle, Tatler, GQ, The Telegraph magazine… I’ve had catwalk reports from Fashion Week reports published on Vogue.com.  I started at ASOS right after graduation, as Editorial Assistant, then moved to online Women’s Fashion Writer before my current role at the magazine.

S.S: What does your job involve?

H.G: Interviewing celebrities, musicians and designers, writing beauty and fashion features, blogging, brainstorming feature and photography ideas…oh my legs often get borrowed for shoots!

S.S: Do you enjoy it?

H.G: It’s challenging but I’m so lucky to be doing the thing I always dreamt of.

S.S: What’s the best thing about your job?

H.G: Fashion week parties with free bars and being part of the amazing ASOS netball team!!

Name: Stephanie Wood

Location: From Billingham, a little town by the north-eastern coast – Maximo Parks’ Paul Smith, Jamie Bell and Jet from Gladiators all went to my school.  I now live in North London.

S.S: Describe your style in THREE words.

S.W: Unashamedly girly & Pretty (ampersands don’t count, right?)

S.S: What inspires you?

S.W: The past – I love watching films and looking at pictures from the 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s.  All very different decades I know, but all so amazing!

S.S: What got you into fashion?

S.W: I spent some time interning at Anne Klein when I was at university – I got to help organise their NY fashion week show, dress celebrity clients and drink champagne every Friday, and thought ‘this is the life for me!’

S.S: Do you have any sort of fashion background?

S.W: Not really, I didn’t study it like a lot of people I work with.  I’ve pretty much educated myself, I got addicted to Style.com at uni, especially during fashion week.  I loved seeing the new collections come through and working out what the big trends were going to be.  I’m much a season-to-season girl!

S.S: What does your job involve?

S.W: Brainstorming and writing fashion and beauty features, blogging, celeb and designer interviews, tweeting (ASOS_Stephanie, look me up) and styling.

S.S: Do you enjoy it?

S.W: It’s not quite as glamourous as people might think, but there are definitely days when you think ‘I am so lucky to be here’ – like the days you get to spend 20 minutes chatting to Dita Von Teese on the telephone.

S.S: What’s the best thing about your job?

S.W: I love working in a creative environment, you meet such interesting people.  Plus I get to wear what I want every day, I couldn’t bear to have to wear a suit!
